After completing her master’s studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA) in Lithuania and studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Patricija Gilytė lives in Germany and works in the fields of installation, video, and sculpture. The artist explores themes of geography, the migration of materials and media, the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the boundaries between them – which the artist conveys through an engaging narrative based on her own lived experience. Her interdisciplinary practice is characterized by site-specific works that focus on the power dynamics between nature and urbanism, as well as transmedia artworks involving spruces (Picea) and firs. She places particular emphasis on local artistic research and collaborative processes related to site-specific art.
In Kintai, Patricija continued a collaborative research project on shoreline plants of bodies of water that she developed together with the artists Ieva Šlekytė-Gasiūnienė and Laura Pavilonytė-Ežerskienė Ūstudio BaltaBalta, Vilnius. In the project’s first phase, the three artists jointly created a textile herbarium of plants from the Isar River and a river flag. These works are being exhibited at Schafhof — European Art Forum of the Upper Bavaria in Freising — on display until 15 September 2025.
During her time in Kintai, Patricija Gilytė collaborated remotely with colleagues from the BaltaBalta studio to dye linen textiles using locally sourced plants. The residency exhibition showcases colors extracted from the aspen tree.
