Sofia Vuorenmaa is a Finnish artist who works with printmaking, texts and analogue photography. Long-term observing and recording the sea, sky and weather, especially the colours, are in the core of her artistic practice. She aims to find and create poetic connections between natural phenomena, language, natures of materials and different systems. Her works reflect on the event of (colour) perception and the simultaneous desire and impossibility to capture or define temporal, unattainable phenomena. Vuorenmaa is currently studying for a master’s degree in fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Finland.

During the residency in Kintai, she observes and explores the seascapes and colours of the sky. She records the phenomena mainly through writing and photography. By using different languages and mediums, she reflects on how an unfamiliar language and varied methods distance or open a new way of existing and sensing the surroundings.
