Nura Afnan-Samandari studied Fine Arts at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. She currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, sharing a studio with Linienstraße, a collective who provide a space for both art exhibition and production. Her work understands drawing and architecture as a single gesture of taking and giving space. For the artist, drawing is the starting point for room installations, as she likens looking at a sketchbook to looking at architecture. According to her, ‘by walking through a building or turning the pages of a book, the viewers place themselves in the midst of a piece’. (Lucas Odahara)

▶ Nura Afnan-Samandari, along with Iliyana Grigorova, Aurélie D’Incau, Vittoria Quartararo and Insa Schülting participated in an ongoing residency programme „Feast of the Birds”. Unfolding as an international and interdisciplinary laboratory, the residency was hosting five artists who were exploring the rich diversity of birds in the Curonian area.

The fleeting nature of birds and landscapes serves as the starting point for this open process, which is being complemented by artist talks, presentations, workshops, and other forms of artistic research, organized in collaboration with the inhabitants of Kintai.
