Miglė Babickaitė

While playing the violin, Miglė Babickaitė defines her own rules and a world in which error, fear, anger, distrust are not hidden, but are vividly combined with strong, loud, often melodious phrases. The musician’s rebellion and unrelenting protest are played out on a classical string instrument. In this contrast, the musician is in conflict with professionalism, rationality and productivity. Migle is not interested in cleansing the technique of all surprise and failure. Through free improvisation, she invites us to give up the possibility of musical success and to look honestly at what remains.

During the residency, Miglė and the violin descended to the basement, where, in a large echo chamber, they knitted an extended, slow and sensitive relationship with the artefacts of Kristina Žalytė’s exhibition.
