Krzysztof Klimek is a painter and a researcher based in Krakow.
Two key tendencies define his work. The first is inspired by direct observation, eye-witnessing, while the second arises from „catching” impulses that come from invisible or intangible dimensions of reality.
The motifs in his paintings often emerge „seasonally,” reflecting special events, discoveries, or experiences that unfold during the course of everyday life. Most important, however, is the moment of merging with the motif—when the painter’s sense of self dissolves. This kind of painting becomes deeply fascinating through its unique ecstasy: when time, past and future, fades away, and only an eternal now remains.
The second current in Klimek’s painting practice, what he refers to as “abstract,” though not in a conventional sense, is a response to impulses originating from unknown realms of existence. By tuning his own “reception system” into a state of complete passivity, much like adjusting a radio to the right frequency, he attempts to connect with what he intuits as real and influential, here on Earth. He seeks to give form to these subtle impulses through painterly means.
Despite the often-perceived limitations of the painting medium, Klimek has made several discoveries that extend its sensory potential: for example, expanding the color range at a micro-scale, where hues are perceived more through sensation than sight. His process involves long-term work, free from dramatic effects or sudden transformations. It is characterized by silence, stillness, and contemplation—an approach that favours listening over action.
