Vittoria Quartararo

As an artist I try to pile up experiences, thoughts and ideas I come across and let them resound further. I believe that free experimentation succeeds above all in the collective process of togetherness. I follow the intention of opening up a space of resonance between different fields, especially in relation to the interdependence of human and non-human tensionships, which – both in the artistic realm and in everyday life- constitute the basis of every creative impulse.

As a classical pianist I avoid working only inside the perimeter of the established musical framework, as I look for new possibilities that can expand the boundaries of playing and listening. My projects focus on the polyphonic complexity that my instrument, the piano, is keen to underlying, especially when it plays with others, as in chamber music: in both research and practice, I am looking for an active exchange of different elements and resources, collaborating with partners with whom it is possible to dig deeper, to weave new threads and to understand the diversity of views on the broad field of music today.

Vittoria Quartararo, along with Aurélie D’Incau, Nura Afnan-Samandari, Iliyana Grigorova and Insa Schülting were participating in a residency programme „Feast of the Birds”. Unfolding as an international and interdisciplinary laboratory, the residency was hosting five artists who were exploring the rich diversity of birds in the Curonian area. The fleeting nature of birds and landscapes serves as the starting point for this open process, which is being complemented by artist talks, presentations, workshops, and other forms of artistic research, organized in collaboration with the inhabitants of Kintai.
