In the exhibition Cool Surface, Tomas Sinkevi\u010dius and Vilt\u0117 Bra\u017ei\u016bnait\u0117 explore the practice of geological carbon dioxide storage and the physical, visual, and political traces of this invisible infrastructure. The exhibition takes as its point of departure carbon dioxide injected into the depths of the North Sea in the 2000s \u2013 intangible, like a scent preserved in memory: Light Blue, Euphoria, Rush.<\/p>\n

The artist duo observes the CO\u2082 storage infrastructure spreading across Europe's energy sector \u2013 from the capture of carbon dioxide as an industrial byproduct and its temporary storage in cryogenic tanks to its final injection into underground geological formations. In the works presented, the artists seek to transform processes invisible to the naked eye into tangible and perceptible material. Here, technologies and scientific data are not neutral tools \u2013 they shape our understanding of the underground, risk, and the reliability of technological solutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About the artists:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vilt\u0117 Bra\u017ei\u016bnait\u0117 and Tomas Sinkevi\u010dius have been working together since 2014. Artist duo make work on the interlinked subjects of late capitalist consumption and climate anxiety in a world full of planetary shifts. Whether through films, photographs, sculpture and installations, Bra\u017ei\u016bnait\u0117 and Sinkevi\u010dius show how deeply, and irrevocably, our dependence on and manipulation of life-forms have altered planetary life today.\u00a0<\/p>\n
