Baltic Shorts Residency 2021 dalyviai<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Baltic short film script development residency \u201cBaltic Shorts Residency\u201d announces official selection results for its third edition \u2014 three short film projects from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were chosen from over 30 received applications. The selected participants \u2014 a film director from Lithuania Akvil\u0117 Gela\u017ei\u016bt\u0117 (project \u201c2.2 Atmospheres or Medium Pressure\u201d), Estonian director and scriptwriter Juri Krutii (project \u201cSide Hesitation\u201d) and Latvian filmmaker \u017danete Skarule (project \u201cBig Loop \u2013 Small Loop\u201d) will be developing their scripts for three weeks on 1-20 June in Lithuanian town Kintai. The Residency is organised by Lithuanian Short Film Agency \u201cLithuanian Shorts\u201d.<\/p>\r\n

The Baltic Shorts Residency is a short film script development program dedicated to filmmakers from the Baltic countries who want to undertake an intense writing process whilst receiving professional consultation with a view to producing a fully finished script of the short film. Three selected participants will have online script consultations with creative advisor Wim Vanacker. W. Vanacker works in the Selection Committee for the Official Short Film Competition of the Cannes Film Festival, he also works as a script consultant, tutor and guest speaker at different international film industry events.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Lithuanian fiction and documentary film director Akvil\u0117 Gela\u017ei\u016bt\u0117 was selected for the \u201cBaltic Shorts Residency\u201d for her short fiction project \u201c2.2 Atmospheres or Medium Pressure\u201d. The story revolves around the main protagonist Gabija \u2013 whilst she and her boyfriend can\u2019t decide whether to buy a male or female puppy, the girl is suddenly invited to return home because of the death of a distant relative. This journey starts to reveal why this choice is so difficult to make. A. Gela\u017ei\u016bt\u0117 is a doctoral student of Film Directing at Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy. Her feature documentary \u201cDeminas: The Two Towers\u201d (2015) won as The Best Student Movie of the year at Lithuanian National Film Awards \u201cSilver Crane\u201d. Currently, she is working as a lecturer of Media Production in VilniusTech University and doing artistic research on the topic \u201cAbsurd Humor Strategies in Cinema\u201d.\n\nAn emerging film director and scriptwriter from Estonia Juri Krutii will come to the residency with the short fiction project \u201cSide Hesitation\u201d. \u201cSide Hesitation\u201d is an unnoticeable yet complex move used in ballroom dancing\u2019s staple dance routine of waltz. The story follows a young teen Madis and his struggle with jealousy and own sexual awakening in the setting of competitive ballroom dancing. As his confusion escalates, he finds himself cornered and makes decisions that puts everything he loves on the line. J. Krutii\u2019s film background takes root in film studies and has then developed in practice resulting with an MFA in writing\/directing from Screen Academy of Scotland as well as the UK-wide well received debut short \u201cEudaimonia\u201d (2018). Heavily influenced by theory and cinema of immersion, Juri strives to create culturally relevant and visually compelling work.\n\nLatvian filmmaker \u017danete Skarule passed the selection of this year\u2019s \u201cBaltic Shorts Residency\u201d applying with a short film project \u201cBig Loop \u2013 Small Loop\u201d. It is a sensitive story about a freshman architecture student Pauls who has discovered feelings for his professor Kalns, yet 1970s Soviet Union is a complicated background for this relationship. Over the years, \u017d. Skarule has worked in film production in New York and Los Angeles, where she also graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with an MFA in film directing. \u017danete works with different genres and techniques \u2013 fiction, documentary, experimental, and installation \u2013 using both analog and digital mediums. Her debut award-winning documentary \u201cFlying Monks Temple\u201d (2017) tells a story of a utopian architectural object created for flying performances at the top of sacred Songshan mountain in China. Besides filmmaking, \u017danete is involved in art and film curation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
